Mags is let loose!

February 2, 2012

In the latest No Nonsense TV ad we see our favourite “Take You for a Ride Insurance” employee Mags on a rare trip out of the office (apparently she even sleeps there).

She’s made a trip to her local butchers shop where she overhears the butcher and another customer discussing the great benefits on offer with No Nonsense car insurance. Now as we all know this is the stuff of nightmares for Mags as she would hate to think someone was getting a good deal. So she tries to distract from the conversation as only she knows how and let’s just say it’s not conventional….check it out:

P.S. I’ve heard a rumour that Mags has discovered “the facebook”, let’s just hope it’s not true! Watch this space for an update…..

Apprentice Panos enjoys a week in the sun courtesy of No Nonsense!

May 19, 2011

2010 “Apprentice” contestant Panos Zambetakis was the lucky winner of a 1 week holiday for 2 in the Sunset Beach Club on the Costa Del Sol http://www.sunsetbeachclub.com/ (part of the FBD Hotels & Resorts).

Panos won the prize on last years show, which was sponsored by No Nonsense, when he got the most public votes for their favourite “No Nonsense” moments!

Panos certainly enjoyed his holiday and his stay at Sunset judging by some of his Facebook posts:

  • “Leaving Sunset BeachClub and Benalmadena just now. It has been an amazing week in a beautiful resort. I would recommended to anyone…”
  • “… it has truly been an amazing week! Much better than my Maldives dream. The resort – Sunset Beach Club- and the staff has been fantastic. Best thing coming out of the Apprentice. Thank you again. Panos”
  • “I love Sunset Beach Club!”

Must admit we were all a bit jealous!

No Nonsense hits Facebook!

April 15, 2011

Introducing…..drum roll please……the brand new No Nonsense Facebook page! Yes it’s true we have decided to delve further into the world of social media and set up a home on the biggest social network of them all.

We’re really excited and looking forward to getting out there and making lots of new friends.

So what will we be posting about? Well at No Nonsense we love, well it’s obvious really, “No Nonsense”. So there’ll be a bit of straight talking and telling it like it is. We do also like to do a bit of nonsense spotting so we’ll also be posting about any nonsense we see out and about in the world although even we can’t spot it all so we also want our friends to post about any nonsense they see and we can all put the world to rights together!

To add to the fun and make our new friends feel welcome we have also created our very own “Nonsense Whacker” game based on the traditional whack-a-mole and starring Mags  & Derek (from our ads). Not only can fans of the page have fun playing the game (and vent a bit of frustration with the mallet) they can also be in with a chance of winning a 2 night break in one of the FBD hotels!

So it’s definitely worth a visit to see us, just click on the Facebook link on the right!

Happy whacking!

No Nonsense shortlisted for 2 All Ireland Marketing Awards!

April 7, 2011

No it’s definitely not nonsense, we are indeed finalists in both the Advertising Campaign Award and The New Market/New Product Award categories. We’re delighted to receive such a positive endorsement and glad to see that our No Nonsense approach to both our products and advertising is being noticed by not only our customers but our peers too.

The All Ireland Marketing Awards programme is organised by The Marketing Institute of Ireland, and recognises the success of Irish companies and Irish marketing professionals and acknowledges their contribution to the ongoing process of strengthening the Irish economy (www.aimawards.ie).

The Advertising Campaign Award aims to recognise a company which has used an advertising campaign well to build the brand and convey key messages clearly about a product or business. Well you can’t get any clearer than our message in our ads and they’ve certainly helped to get our brand known!

The New Market/Product Award recognises those who have successfully launched a new product or service, and/or entered a new market. No Nonsense is unique to the Irish Market in that you only pay for what you want. So in both cases we definitely feel that we’re a deserving finalist!

The award ceremony will be held in May and although we’re up against some stiff competition we’re hoping that the little stars of our campaign Mags and Derek can pull it off for us (we were hoping for a personal appearance from them both on the night but since they’ve become famous their demands are of diva proportions). Wish us luck!

New No Nonsense TV Ads!

January 20, 2011

The latest No Nonsense ads have hit your TVs fresh for the New Year! Returning to the small screen is our old favourite Take You For a Ride Insurance employee Mags. She’s on top of her game at the moment and has just won the “coveted” employee of the month award. You can see all the “training” has paid off and she’s going to new extremes in her advice to customers! This time though Mags isn’t alone………

Introducing Derek…..He’s the latest nonsense spouting employee at Take You For a Ride whose goal is to make home insurance as confusing as possible while making sure customers are protected for any bizarre event that’s unlikely to happen to them. He’s a big fan of Dragons but strongly dislikes Sycamore trees??!!

Together they make a great working team and it’s even been rumoured that it’s not just purely a professional relationship so watch this space……………

Check out the new ads and let us know what you think.

No Nonsense nuptials part 1

November 9, 2009

It’s a bleary Monday morning, the birds are coughing in the trees and I face the dual dilemmas of planning a No Nonsense wedding and writing about it. To be honest, I’m not sure which task is more intimidating :p.

Well, since it’s a No Nonsense wedding, the theme here is going to be affordability without sacrificing quality. (I was so pushing for a Doctor Who theme, I mean David Tennant is finishing up, he’d so be free for an appearance! But my fiancé was having none of it…. huh… girls)

I’ve been searching high and low for resources to help me in this endeavour and have found some interesting sites. The best by my estimation has to be The Frugal Bride. While it’s a Canadian site, it is packed full of hints tips and resources to help your wedding go smoothly and without expense. I was thoroughly impressed.

There are also a myriad of lists containing money saving tips for your big day, such as this one at about.com.

For our part we’re trying to keep it simple. We’re going to have a civil ceremony at a hotel, and then the reception in the same hotel. No moving people from a church to a reception, no decorating a church. None of the expenses that come with a church wedding. Of course, Civil weddings don’t suit everyone. We had decided on a civil ceremony long before we thought about saving money, it just happened to suit all our needs.

The wedding party will also be fairly small. Two of my closest friends on my side, her oldest friend and sister on her side. The Guest list….. Well… that’s a monster for another slay. But we’ve taken the first step and we’re on track so far. Will I crack under the pressure? Will my fiancé kill me? Am I going to finish every post with a series of questions?

The answers to none of these questions and more are on the way!

Yours,

The Prudent Groom

The No Nonsense wedding!

November 2, 2009

Observant readers will have noted that I became engaged earlier in the year.  About 3 months later (after the shock had worn off), I sat down and began thinking about the wedding. I know some people might think it too soon, but I’ve never been one to sit and wait.

I finally asked

So I’m having a wedding….

… Next Year …

… In May.

That’s a little scary… isn’t it? And more than one person has pointed out that this is the worst time economically to have a wedding, but I’m determined (love can do that to you… fear too… might be a correlation there). So here it goes, a No Nonsense wedding. Can I have my big day without a big budget?

Follow me dear readers as I tread that perilous line between a happy bride and a happy bank balance.  As I plan out the money saving, bouquet waving, Aisle paving No Nonsense nuptials.

Yours,

Comprehensive car insurance for only €225

September 4, 2009

We don’t talk about ourselves very much here on this blog but I thought it opportune to share with you just how much good value we are. You’ve heard the ads on the radio and you know that we don’t offer cover for attacks by zombies in Cork, bears in Cavan or insurance brokers anywhere in Ireland. What we do try to offer is the lowest cost car insurance without all the extra bits and bobs that most of us don’t really want or actually use.

In case you haven’t heard it, here is our latest radio ad:

Here’s how our car insurance works. If you have a car worth a couple of grand that you’re not particularly worried is going to get stolen or burnt out, then Third Party cover is all that you need to get you on the road. This is the legal minimum cover required to drive. If you were a 30 years old lady  girl, living in Dublin, driving a 1.4 Golf the annual premium would be €156.57. Now that doesn’t come with breakdown assist or windscreen cover, but is designed to get you on the road for the lowest possible price.

So let’s say that Golf is worth seven or eight grand. You’ll want cover for fire and theft and even cover in case it gets a bump. Comprehensive cover will cost our friend here just €279.75. I don’t believe there is any other insurance company that will beat that.

Now, it actually gets better:

Firstly, for that €279, our lady in Dublin can add on her partner or hubby at no extra charge, provided (like herself) he has a full clean driving licence, full NCD and is around the same age as her. That’s two people insured for the price of one.

Secondly by adjusting the claims excess she can bring down the premium further. The default excess on that policy is €500. This means that if there’s a claim we will pay the full cost less €500. You can reduce the excess to €250 or increase the excess up to €2,000. If she chooses the latter option she can bring her premium for Comprehensive cover right down to €225.

So that’s Comprehensive car insurance for just €225. Stick that in your pipe.

Nearly forgot, you can get a quote here yourself. It takes five seconds and there’s no strings attached, or zombies.

Why is No Nonsense so cheap?

May 29, 2009

“There must be a catch. What’s the catch?” says he. “There’s no catch!” says I.

A friend of mine was shopping around for his car insurance recently. He’s currently with one of those big foreign-owned insurance companies – you know the type; the ones that can’t decide what to call themselves so they change their name every year, presumably at huge expense to their customers…

Anyway, his renewal with them is €520 for Third Party, Fire & Theft on his 5 year-old auto. He poped over to NoNonsense.ie and for the same car and same cover is quoted €295.  So, he rings me and the conversation goes something like this (I’ll call him Joe here to protect his identity):

Joe: “What’s the story with that quote I got on No Nonsense? Is it right?”

Me: “Sounds right based on what you’ve told me. Are you going to switch?”  – that’s me with my sales hat on ;-)

Joe: “There must be a catch. What’s the catch?”

Me: “There’s no catch! If you don’t want the bells and whistles and just want cheap car insurance, then you’d be mad not to switch. Our price is over €200 cheaper than your renewal.” – sales hat on again

Joe: “Hmmm…”

So I get into explaining why No Nonsense can be cheaper than many of the other insurance companies.

Firstly the car insurance we offer is a what-you-see-is-what-you-get type of product. If you want third-party cover that’s what you pay for. Every other insurance product in the Irish market has a host of additional benefits bundled in. Some customers want that, but No Nonsense customers don’t. By taking out all the frills we can cut out all those additional costs that go towards things you don’t want or may never need.

Secondly this is an Internet-only product. We don’t sell through brokers or through any other intermediaries. This means there is no commission pushing up the costs. It also means that we don’t have big overheads or administration costs.

Another area where we keep the prices down is in the complex field of underwriting. As Howard pointed out in a previous post, we don’t get involved in “specialist underwriting” which is costly. This means that some people won’t be able to get a quote from us. We know that this can be frustrating sometimes but we do try and be as transparent as possible about this up front in our Assumptions.

One thing to remember is that we do pay out if you have an accident. The feedback from our customers who have been unlucky enough to need to make a claim is that we look after them and are very efficient. Other low cost insurance companies have developed a reputation in the past of not paying out and we’re very clear that we’re not in that bracket when it comes to customers with genuine claims.

Oh and finally, we don’t spend a huge amount on marketing (as you can see). We won’t be changing our name any time soon either, although I do quite like the roll-off-the-tongue sound of “No Nonsense Churchill Irish Insurance plc.”

Best TV Ad!

April 2, 2009

Wow! We’ve just spotted that our TV ad has been voted Best Irish TV ad for the month of February on tvads.ie. We’re really chuffed. The ad cost us very little to make and just shows what a little bit of creativity can do. Well done to the guys in marketing.

best-tv-ad-february-2009

The ad depicts a traditional car insurance agent on the phone to a frustrated customer who is looking for a basic car insurance package. She’s trying to sell him everything including “zombie cover”. Thankfully a No Nonsense brick comes along and sorts her out

We’ve had a lot of positive comments about the ad on TV but it’s really nice to be voted for by people we don’t know. Thanks to everyone who voted. I’ve just discovered that tvads.ie  site as a result of this and will be keeping an eye on it from now on.
